Click on the Photo Exhibits page on left to go directly to our web page about additional exhibits The Florida Museum of Photographic ArtThe Magic Box of Abelardo Morell Abelardo Morell's "magic box" is the "camera obscura," which literally means "dark room" in Italian. Used since the Renaissance, the camera obscura is, literally, Italian for "dark room." It is also the source of the term “camera.” In it, scenes from the outside world appear upside down on a wall inside a dark room from which the light has been curtained off except for a pinhole of light. This ancestor of the modern camera had no film upon which to “fix” or preserve an image. Photographic Art Society Don Vista Cultural Arts Center Saint Pete Beach "Birds" Thru April 15th |
