About our member Sandy Thomas
I am a retired Navy Photographer having spent 20 years (and 6 days), from 1958 to 1978. Photographed President Kennedy, the original 7 astronauts, Monkey Baker, the Queen of England and returning Vietnam POW’s. I taught in the Navy’s Photo A and B schools and “pushed boots” in Recruit Training for Women. Attained AS degrees in Architectural Drafting & Design and Graphic Arts. Took “bread and butter” art in high school and after retiring, started painting again. When I came home to Pinellas Park in 1997, I started working in an Eckerds photo lab as a retoucher using Photoshop 3 and joined the National Association of Photoshop Pros in 1998. I started studying art with Judi Dazzio at St. Pete Arts Center (now the Morean) and taking photographs to use for painting. In 2004, I purchased my first digital camera (Nikon D70) and have since upgraded to the latest, the D810. I still like to shoot /process black and white using the Nikon F5 with Tri-X film. I take pictures of everything except weddings…
